winter wellness
moving through life with more intention.
As the first cold mornings roll in and the air takes on that unmistakable crispness, I can feel the energy in our home slowly shifting. Winter in Canada asks a little more of us – more intention, more nourishment, more rest. After ten years of sharing about essential oils through education and my personal experience, I’ve learned that thriving through winter isn’t about perfection—it’s about being prepared, and slowing down.
I restock our winter wellness staples: Vitamin C and D for fortification, fish oils for strength, a generously sized homeopathic dose of Oscillococcinum (because cold season never shows up quietly), and a fresh jar of New Zealand Manuka honey that feels almost alchemical in its healing. Lemons sit in a bowl on the counter ready for tea.
Sleep rises back to the top of the priority list – nature’s medicine. It always falls down the list in summer. I fill out remedy shelves with herbal teas, bone broth, and Epsom salts for warm, restorative baths.
Winter reminds us to move through life with a touch more intention.
A gentler pace.
A deeper presence.
Winter just asks us to be a bit more intentional with our wellbeing. Having our home toolkit ready – our natural go-to’s, the things we love and trust – elps my family feel protected, grounded, and held during the months when our vitality needs a little extra tending, and when the sniffles walk through the door.
And at the centre of that toolkit? Essential oils.
They’ve supported my family for over a decade, and they remain some of the most powerful, accessible, and beautiful wellness tools we use all winter long.
Below is a shopping cart of the Top 10 Essential Oils I stock at this time of year, plus a few of our must-have tools.
My Top 10…
for this time of year.
Eucalyptus
On Guard
Easy Air
Peppermint
Frankincense
Tea Tree
Deep Blue
Balance
Copaiba
Rosemary
Humidifier for Essential Oils
Fractionated Coconut Oil
How I use them all winter long:
Eucalyptus
My go-to for congestion support. I add 3 drops to a bowl of boiling water, throw a tea towel over my head, and breathe deeply (eyes closed!). Often I’ll add Rosemary and Peppermint for an extra clearing steam.
On Guard
Immune support in a jar: I mix 10 drops into honey and take a teaspoon when anyone is run-down, or stir it into tea for a soothing drink. Also wonderful on the soles of the feet or diffused when something is “going around.”
Easy Air
Perfect for chest and sinus congestion. I dilute 1 drop with fractionated coconut oil and rub it onto the chest and back – lungs and heart. Gentle enough for little ones. Lovely in the diffuser with On Guard or Lavender.
Peppermint
A single drop pressed to the temples works wonders for headaches and stuffiness. Diffuse with Eucalyptus for open airways and an uplifting mood shift.
Frankincense
My daily grounding oil. I rub 2 drops along the spine for cellular support, and use 1 drop on the thumb, pressed to the roof of the mouth, for low mood or head tension.
Tea Tree
When the germs show up, so does Tea Tree. Great in the diffuser with Peppermint or Lavender. A couple of drops on the soles of the feet offers powerful immune support.
Deep Blue
For the inevitable aches and pains of winter. A soothing, warming blend that feels absolutely divine on tired, sore muscles.
Balance
When moods feel wobbly (and winter can do that), Balance helps me feel steady, rooted, and emotionally grounded.
Copaiba
Beautiful for immune support. 1–2 drops on the soles of the feet and comforting during moments of anxiety or overwhelm (especially when you’re already feeling unwell).
Rosemary
A winter clearing superstar. Perfect for steams and diffusing, especially when paired with Lemon and Peppermint. Fresh, bright, and energetically uplifting.
Dawn Humidifier (for Essential Oils)
An absolute staple in our home. Everyone has one in their room, and they’ve lasted for years. They come with Easy Air and On Guard, or you can purchase one on its own.
Fractionated Coconut Oil
Essential for safe topical use – use for dilution of oils. One pump for adults, two for kids, and you’re ready to apply any oil with comfort and confidence.
Winter wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. With a few simple rituals and your favourite natural tools close at hand, your home becomes a place of warmth, resilience, and comfort.
